Catchin' up with Theresa and Althea...Our first trial of the summer was the inaugural agility all breed trial of the Giant Schnauzer Club of America and was held at the Norris Complex  in Vancouver WA...outside on grass.  Althea was entered in both NovP Standard and Jumpers with Weaves for both days breaking my fundamental rule of only trialing one day. On Saturday, she q'd and took first place in 8 inch Nov P but never q'd again that weekend. In fact, by the end of the trial, she was sure the game now was to go as fast as you can through the uprights. Only fools actually bother to jump over the bar 'cause that just slows you down.

Fourth of July weekend brought the WSOTC all breed agility trial outside on the grass at Argus Ranch. On the Sunday we were entered for just one JWW run. It looked like a really nice course but after the first three jumps Althea had her power up and her hearing off as she zoomed over jumps of her choice and did a couple of laps round the tunnel. So I stopped her in the middle, picked her up and carried her baby style out of the ring. No point in letting her reward her own bad behavior. The next day we had two very nice, very attentive runs. Neither resulted in any q's as she dropped one bar on each course by not keeping her back feet up long enough, but that is something you can work on.

We trialed only Saturday July 23rd at the Chuckanut Dog Training Association trial indoors on dirt at the fairgrounds in Lyden WA, but what a day! Got our first jumpers q, got our first double q and got our last Standard leg for our first title...NAP!!

7/4/05

Karen and her schnauzer, Frisco, took away a 2nd place and a Q on Saturday, their only day of trialing of the WSOTC trial.

Myste has not been very active but Leah had a great spring and also did well at the ZAP trial. YTD Leah has two legs of novice JWW and one leg of novice agility in AKC. In March she earned her NGC and two legs of Novice regular in NADAC.
Fast forward to ZAP. Myste was back to competion after an injury and place 4th in Novice weavers. Leah placed 4th in novice jumpers
and 4th in novice regular. Then, pulling it together she Q'd in Novice regular on Saturday and on Sunday had a clean run Q in regular, placing 3rd and earning her NAC.
Everything else was for fun and experience. When we learn to beat the clock both of my clean run but slow dogs will take home some ribbons to
go with the happy faces.

Normally we don't do as well in USDAA because of the tighter courses (and snooker), but Wendell had a great showing this weekend at the
Sno-King USDAA agility show in Monroe. He won the Vers-agility award for the Performance I division and then also took the overall Performance division! This is scored on placements and times for all the runs of the weekend. He also finished his Performance I Gamblers, Snooker, Jumpers titles and took 2nd place overall in the National Performance run (Grand Prix) competing against all performance dogs. I'm so proud of my dog!

Despite his 'leap of great heights' a few weeks ago and therefore not running much at the ZAP trial, he had fantastic attention and good speed. No zoomies and no fly-offs all weekend! We tried a new drop-and-run start line to keep him motivated (which is kind of comical to see, I'm told), but definitely still plan to work on nervousness at the start line so we don't have to do that forever. For those of you who haven't done USDAA, there are two divisions: Performance and Championship. Performance division is the  equivalent of AKC preferred or NADAC veterans - except that a lot more competitors (~ 40%) do performance. In USDAA Championship division, Wendell would have to jump 22" and do a 6'3" A-frame. In Performance he jumps 16" and does a 5"6" frame (NADAC is a 5' frame for everyone). Performance levels are PI (novice), PII (open), PIII (elite) and Championship levels are Starters, Advanced and Masters. Snooker and Grand Prix (Nat'l Performance) are two different classes offered compared to other registries. Its a hoot!

Saturday runs...Nov. Reg. Q-2nd place, Nov. Reg. 5th place, Nov. Jumpers 4th place

Sunday runs...Nov. Touch and Go 2nd place, Nov. Reg. Q-2nd place, Nov. Reg. Q-5th place, Jumpers 5th place, and Tunnelers 4th place. Great job!

4/23/05-4/24/05

Last weekend at the EAT NADAC trial, our second trial, Gabe earned his Novice Agility Title.  Our second regular run on Sunday put him over the top.  It was a clean run and he placed second.

Overall for the weekend, Gabe had three Q's, two 3rd place finishes, one 6th and one 2nd all regular runs.  Gabe has also learned how to mug for the camera.  His contacts were wonderful on our first reg run Saturday because he stopped and posed for the photographer.  Infinite exposure got great shots of him, all smiles.  We still have to master the gamble and jumpers.  On our 2nd jumpers run, we made time but dropped one bar.  Goal for the ZAP trial - make a gamble and a clean jumpers run!
Back to training; obstacle discrimination, distance, distance, distance.  Looking forward to the ZAP trial.
Anne Seethoff and Gabe

4/2/05-4/3/05

The beagles went to Sequim this weekend for the AKC trial.  BART had a PERFECT RUN, FAST, very FAST, Fast throughout from start to finish, one momentary almost sniff at the start of the
weave poles only, a standard open run in 55 seconds, 22 seconds under time can you believe it!!! And CLEAN, not a mistake anywhere, a 1st place and his OPEN STANDARD title, and a really
happy boy jumping on the table outside the gate to get his treats.  My God where'd this dog come from, 5 years of training finally showed up, just when I was beginning to think he was too
old and unmotivated.  This was the best run he or Bessie have ever had, and three great runs in a row.  WOW.  Several people complimented our run.

Lhasa Apso, Colby, and Carol Hess earned the Novice Jumpers Preferred title at the January Puyallup trials with 3 first-place runs in the 8" jump height. Colby also earned his Novice Rally title in three attempts.

1/16/05-1/18/05

Althea the Cardigan Corgi and Theresa Calter only entered Monday of the Puyallup trial. This was their AKC agility debut. While Althea got her first Q and a 1st place in 8" NovP Standard, Theresa's error in JWW cost them the Q there, though they finished with plenty of time on the clock.  Oh well...In our first NADAC trial (ZAP's inaugural trial in Nov 04) the team fluffed the first Jumpers round and came back to get a Q and Second Place in the second round of 8" Nov Jumpers.  Photo by Infinite Exposures

9/13/03 - 9/14/03
At the NADAC trial in Elma on Sept 13, 14, Wendell had a great showing finishing his Novice titles in Standard, Jumpers and Gamblers. On Saturday we had a clean first run in Gamblers with a bit of the zoomies. I had to drop him for a 1 second calming down - luckily the judge didn't have a problem with that. The jumpers and standard courses were also easier than others I've seen (thanks, Cathy!) so we had no trouble until we got a little tired on our last run of the day and missed the last jump (I pushed him away). On Sunday we were first dog on the line at 8am for Gamblers. Went great, but the gamble was challenging - a send past a tunnel to a ramp. Our trouble was sticking the landing. I got bold in Jumpers and tried some distance. He listened well when I gave an over-enthusiastic 'here' which started a chain of flubs by the handler. Q'ed in both standard runs latter in the day. Nice easy courses both. So a total of 5 Q's. We need to work on our contacts and distance. We had much better focus than any trial so far, so I think our pre-run rituals and experience are paying off. Thanks to Vicki and Missy for being there with us. - Micki Lagrou

June, 2003
At the Lacey NADAC trial in June, Wendell got his zoomies out in the first few runs then had some nice efforts. In the first 2 standard runs on Saturday it was utter chaos with Wendell deciding I had messed up quite enough and he would now proceed to wow the crowd with fast laps of the course. The judge was not amused. Later on Saturday we had fantastic clean runs in both Gamblers and Jumpers.

On Sunday, we had a very nice clean run on the first Standard course, but going backwards on the course for the second run was a little more confusing. I got a little ahead of him at the ramp and he decided to not stick his landing. Jumpers and Gamblers were a bit more of the same with dog and handler scattered and a little tired. This being only our second trial, we had a nice showing and hope more experience will help teach us to stay focused. - Micki Lagrou

After a few month break from agility shows, Jonathan came back with style this weekend at the Bell-Vernon Agility Trials in Oak Harbor.  He earned his second and third legs in Open Standard for his Open title with two first places.  Saturday's run was clean with a time of 44.17 seconds on a STC course time of 73 seconds (3.67 yards per second on a 162 yard course).  Only one other dog in the entire trial on Saturday was faster (3.75 yards per second).  On Sunday Jonathan threw in an extra jump, but still managed to place first with a score of 95 and a time of 46.1 on a STC course time of 76 seconds (3.65 yards per second on a 168 yard course).  Jonathan also earned his second leg of his Novice Jumpers with Weaves title, with a second place and a clean run, with a time of 26.85 seconds on a STC course of 42 seconds.   Thanks to Kathy Lang for giving me such a thorough understanding of obedience training, which has definitely contributed to our continued success in the agility ring. ~ Rita Williams

In our first trial, Wendell (Belgian Dingbat) earned his first Novice A Standard leg with a nice first place ribbon (0 course faults, 2.0 time faults -- do you believe it?) on a very challenging course (only 3 qualifiers at 20 inches).  He also did very well in tunnellers and jumpers where he had a non-qualifying second place. ~ Micki Lagrou

At the BTCWW trials in Roy on Saturday:  Tyler double Q'd in Open, earning his second standard leg & 2nd place with a clean run, and he finished his Open JWW title with 2nd place.   Journey earned his second Novice standard leg with 1st place and a clean run.  Keeper had moments of brilliance, interspersed with moments of being an easily distracted Belgian Sheepdog.  Oh well!  On Sunday:  Tyler finished his Open standard title with 2nd place and a clean run, so he is now formally known as CH Lorjen Double Entendre' UD OA OAJ.  Our Excellent jumpers debut was quite respectable AND I DID NOT GET LOST :~) !  Keeper double Q'd today with dual first places.  Her Novice JWW score was 100 and well under course time.  Her Novice standard score was 95 (due to an overran jump) and well under time.  Keeper now has 2 legs in Novice standard and 1 leg in Novice jumpers.  Journey didn't qualify today, but I learned more about handling him and our training weaknesses.  To date, Journey has 2 Novice standard legs, 0 JWW legs.  Lots to work on before the 4th of July trial! ~ Kathy Lang   PS:  My favorite part of the trials?  The great oldies & disco music played during walk-thru's.  It really got people up & moving and helped relax us.  Music should be a standard part of all trials!

Hi, well we tried our hand at our first NADAC trial this weekend in Lacey. We took 2nd place in the regular 2 class on Sunday 6/23. Kona was so jealous of all of Tessa's ribbons he decided to give it his best shot! With the extremely hot weather this weekend and my lack of sleep from GRADUATION and board exams for veterinary technology, I think we did great!! I have a great picture to send but I need to learn how to use my new scanner! ~ Cheryl Bednar   PS: Thank you Cathy Horrocks for your great teaching, all your support, and most of all your company this weekend.  And thank you Tessa for giving me the strength I needed and being a great buddy! At the EGGRC AKC agility trials, my black dogs did the following:  Keeper - First leg in Novice Standard, clean run, 100 points, well under course time and FIRST PLACE!   (This was her debut weekend, too!   Although she didn't Q in her other runs, each one got better and by this run we really felt like a team!)  Tyler - Second leg in Open Jumpers with Weaves.   It was a BEAUTIFUL clean run, just 4 seconds over course time, resulting in a score of 92.   Tyler also came so very close in his other Open classes this weekend...some handler errors and some dog focus errors.  Oh well...on to next weekend!  Journey - First leg in Novice Standard and FOURTH PLACE!   (This was his debut, too!   Although Journey didn't Q in his other runs, he also got better & better, which means he acted less & less like a schipperke!) ~ Kathy Lang
